The first thing to consider when planning for any ice fishing trip is appropriate clothing. It is difficult to enjoy your time on the ice if you’re cold. For your feet, wear waterproof insulated boots and a pair of thick socks. Buckskin or deerskin mittens with removable liners are the best way to keep your hands warm — and have an extra pair. Use mufflers, scarves or neck-warmers. Layer your clothing, beginning with long johns. Overdress and always plan on it being cold. Remember that you can always remove a layer if you’re too warm, but you can’t put it on if you don’t have it!
