A Tip of the Hat to DIF&W

We would like to extend a big thank you to the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife for stocking the brook trout for this past winter’s Jack Traps Youth Ice Fishing Derby on Cochnewagon Lake in Monmouth. They went above and beyond what we expected in terms of the quantity and quality of the fish stocked, and their support greatly contributed to the overall success of the derby. We had over 100 kids on hand whose ages ranged from four to twelve years old. Despite the blizzard we had that day, everyone had a lot of fun, with over half of the kids catching fish. This wouldn’t have been possible without the DIF&W’s generous support.

This was only our second kids’ derby, but our mission is, has been, and will continue to be to get the youth of Maine outdoors and on the ice every winter. Youth-focused derbies around the state each winter are important to the communities in which they take place and the state as a whole.

We are also extremely fortunate to have the continued support of local sponsors and volunteers to help make the derby possible, so thank you to them, as well.

In short, the DIF&W should be recognized for their efforts to encourage Maine youth to engage with the outdoors all year round.

We’ll see you next winter!
